I'm curious--those of you who have taken/are taking Lamictal--have you gained weight, or had trouble losing weight?
My doc assures me that Lamictal is a weight-neutral drug and shouldn't make you gain. Sure enough, I'm not gaining, but I absolutely cannot seem to lose a pound. I think that anti-depressants and hypothyroidism have messed up my metabolism to the point where it's not really normal to begin with, so that is probably a huge chunk of the problem, but I can't help but wonder what (if any) portion of this is due to the Lamictal.
If any of you have successfully lost weight on meds, how did you do it?
You know, I'm wondering that myself. I've been on Lamictal for a week and I have been eating less due to stress and haven'y been losing any weight. But it may just be like that until the drug is entirely into your system. How long have you been on it? I'm also on birth control pills which makes it extra hard to lose weight if not gain weight. I'll let you know the more into the treatment I am.

I have been on Lamictal for 8 months. It has not caused me to gain or loose weight. But it has helped me NOT TO CARE!!
Wellbutrin does cut the appetite which helps in weight loss. Not that I care.

GentleLady and I are in the same boat. Lamictal is neutral, and Wellbutrin does cause a bit of weight loss. And yet, somehow the weight issue gets completely overshadowed by the mental stability.
Hormonal birth control -- usually makes me gain weight. BTW - My p-doc refuses to treat me if I go on a hormonal B.C. because it might impact the effectiveness of my med combo.

I'm currently on Orthotricycline-Lo. It has the lowest doses of hormones but I dont know exactly how I would be like without it because I've been on it about a year. What do you think? My PDoc know I'm on it and hasn't mentioned anything about it. No warnings or anything.

If your moods have been relatively stable for the last year, don't worry about it. If not, you might want to talk to both your OB-GYN and your p-doc about alternatives - IUD, diaphragm, etc. One problem - IUDs are often not covered by HMOs, regardless of medical problems with hormonal contraceptives.

Whats an IUD?
