My father was diagnosed with bipolar disorder over 30 years ago. He has had health insurance since then. Recently he change insurances, due to moving from one state to another, and they are denying coverage. Does anyone know of any insurance co that will cover bipolar?
I'm in the UK so I can't help with Insurance co's - I just wondered if you have an organisation called The Manic Depression Fellowship there (or something similar). They are great with this sort of information and can point you in the right direction.
Sorry I can't be more help but didn't want to just leave your post unanswered. Have you spoken to your dad's pdoc/local hospital/psych nurse or anyone like that in case they know of any?
Jawhit,
Any insurance that covers mental health will cover BD. I have always had to "get permission" from the company to be seen. Has he called them? I could name off all the insurance coverages I have had but it may be more useful for him to get in contact with his and find out why it isn't covered. Good luck.
He has not been seen for his condition for probably 30 years. He has taken lithium and it works great for him. So he has not seen a psych nurse or anyone else. BCBS has dropped his whole policy because of this. Why can't they just not cover for mental health, but cover medical? I don't understand it. Thank you for your response.
