Could I be Bipolar?

Hi: I normally post in the depression board but I have been beginning to wonder if I could be bipolar. I have not been officially diagnosed yet, right now all my psych has said is I have a serious mental illness and a severe form of depression. I am going to list point form just so I can keep track

1. Long standing depression - on a minor level close to twenty years
2. Long standing sleeping issues - currently take zoplicone for this
3. Severe depression last four months - right now on 40mg of Paxil
4. Suicidal ideation - mostly over the last four months
5. History of suicide attempts- none serious in the last fifteen years
6. Self harm - my arm is covered in scars
7. Paranoia - believe people are conspiring to get me .more or less
he prescribed Zyprexa Zydius at 5mg for this, which pretty much quieted down the paranoia but I quit taking a couple of days ago due to severe digestive problems, I quit with out docs permission.
8. Extreme hyperness for short periods 45 minutes at a time or so that come out of no where then disappear the Zyprexa stopped this as well. They usually happen a couple of times a day.
9. Doctor would like to hospitalize me but mentally I do not think I could handle being stuck in one place.

I know there is numerous forms of bipolar but does any of the above point to bipolar.

Thanks for the responses
Take Care

Re: Could I be Bipolar?

You sure could. I'd see another dr. By the way, being put into the hosp may be the besy thing for you. If and i do say if they keep you long enough, may be they could help stablize the meds.

Re: Could I be Bipolar?

Hi! One of the very first topics ("Attention Newbies") on this board kind of lists the various symptoms of Bipolar Disorder. Not everyone has all of them all the time but everyone has some sort of regular cycle between the highs and the lows.

You should really check them out. Also, in case you didn't know, there is a board here for Self-Injury (cutting) that may help in that area since it's not the average bipolar symptom.

Welcome aboard, we've had people come and stay here even when they found out they weren't Bipolar - so keep that in mind!
