Hello;

Crying isn't neccessarily "part of the cycle". I went for 9 yrs or so without routine crying jags being part of my episodes.
Then about 18 mos ago I started experiencing spells of crying throughout the day. Anything could set them off; not being able to open a jar, having the toothpaste fall off the brush into the sink, tangles in my hair, etc. It wasn't so much that I was depressed, and I'm still not certain exactly what is..
Up until just a little over a week ago I was spending the better portion of the day crying. It has escalated from a little spell now and then to literally crying
every moment I was awake.
While I can't say Lamictal is responsible for the onset of these spells, I've never been able to make it through the adjustment period and stopped, it is curious that the crying started right around the time my doctor had me start lamictal.

I wouldn't make a connection between lamictal and crying if it weren't for the
fact that I tried lamictal again just weeks ago. I took it for 20 days before stopping it, again due to the horrible way I felt while taking it. It was during this trial period that the spells increased to the point I was crying pretty much the entire time I was awake. They let up some when I stopped the lamictal, but were still a problem. I managed to get my pa to prescribe Lexapro in addition to the Effexor, lithium, klonopin, cylert I take.
The first day after having taken the Lexapro the night before I saw major improvement. It was amazing. I don't think I've cried more than once or twice in the week since I started taking it.

My thought is that lamictal some how triggered the crying or whatever is causing the crying. However, since I wasn't taking it for most of the 18 mos
I can't say it was responsible for it to continue. But lamictal has some part in causing crying given that my crying increased so dramatically when I was introduced to lamictal it again.

To be honest, I have no idea. There are always other factors that need consideration but as usual there's no way to be absolutely certain. I will
assure you, though, I will never again allow someone to talk me into lamictal against my better instincts.
