Anyone try Elavil?

I'm trying to figure out what my doc may suggest, as I will be seeing a new phychiatrist Tuesday . Other doc did mention elavil, I flipped out, being I'm rx major depression and GAD, didn't think I needed something like that. But, if I need it to stop this constant state of fear and anxiety, so be it. Just wondering how well it works, how it works, side effects, I have taken prozac and zoloft in the past and it worked fine ( at different times of course) Took a shot at both recently and it caused more anxiety. This has me puzzled. thx for reading, multiple posts I know, just needing to connect with someone out there who may be having same troubles, please share, thank you and God bless, pinkee

Re: Anyone try Elavil?

Heck, there is another that the wife has not tried. I thought she had taken them all. See what I have learned.

Re: Anyone try Elavil?

I was given Elavil over 30 yrs ago. First my arms started drawing up & into my body. Then my legs. Then my head turned to the right and I couldn't move it back.
They gave me cogentin to counteract that side effect with my body...
Turns out that I really just needed a good mood stabilizer since I was Bipolar and that was my main problem.

Re: Anyone try Elavil?

In my opionion Elavil was good and bad for me. It really helped me sleep and
what I got from it was a kind of peace, no other medication I've been on
since, had that effect. The bad part my Doctor was concerned because he
thought it could dammage my heart. I think thats why with these new medications, they are safer that way, but everyone is differant. I have some
kind of thing in my heart, the cardiologist was concerned about, but said it
would not get worse or better, so he let me stay on it. For me the other bad
part was I tended to overdose on it, so in the end they took me off of it.
Hope that helps, like I said everyone is different.
