hi everyone,
i posted another thread on here about the fact that ive missed a period whilst taking lithium ( ive never missed a period before in my life) but didnt get any replies, so im guessing its something that not many of you have experienced as a side effect of lithium, (for those of you who are also taking it or have done in the past)
anyway this is something that is really concerning me so ive done some research and found out that missed periods can be caused by thyroid disorders, which can obviously in turn be caused by taking lithium. im now totally freaking out as this was a big concern of mine when i started taking lithium. I have family history of thyroid trouble, my mum had a goiter which had to be removed. i really dont want to have problems with my thyroid. Apart from the missed period, im feeling fine physically, the tiredness and lack of concentration i had when i first started taking lithium has now passed and im actually feeling better than i have done in a while. I havent gained or lost any weight either, that seems to be staying stable.
what is the likelihood that i could have thyroid trouble? ive been on lithium 2 months now and my current dose is 600mg, i was on 400mg for the first 5 weeks before having the dosage increased.
im getting my thyroid checked on wednesday but cant help but worry. even though the lithium seems to be starting to stabilise my bipolar, i cant help but feel like im poisoning myself somehow by taking it. does that sound crazy? ive always been lucky enough to have fairly good physical health and i dont want that to suffer aswell
