completly lost - Bipolar Disorder Message Board

My best friend suffers from bi-polar disorder. Howeve, there are so many things that I do not understand and I feel that he might do something drastic because I just cannot help him. Here's the story, if anyone has any advice please help me because i'm very concerned. My friend the other day told me all of this stuff. Stuff about his depression and how is life has to be lead by patterns no matter what he is doing. Not like OCD though. But he does have obessive thoughts. One min. he is so depressed and the next he is fine. He is taking some medicine for it. He told me that he lies all the time and he knows and that he has a power over people and he really does. He can make people feel such intense emotions. He also said that he can control his emotions more then people think he can. He always says, "Do I lie to myself to be happy" I really wonder that. He talks about this electricty he feels in his brain at certian times. Are these symptoms that go along with being bi-polar? or is there something else wrong with him? I've delt with people in my past that were bi-polar but this is so differetn and I'm not sure what to do.I'm just really worried about him.

I am new here, but I have been diagnosed with bipolar for over 15 years. Some bipolars do have the symptoms you describe, they occur during mania, but you will not find them in classic textbooks on the subject. Bipolars are afraid to describe them to docs entirely, because of hospitalization issues. BUT...

Also your bf should be evaluated by a dr, because some of these symptoms can occur when psychosis, a break with reality occurs. They indicate a need for narrowing the diagnosis and could worsen. Sounds as though your bf may have either bipolar with psychotic features or may be schizoaffective, or could have been misdiagnosed and actually be suffering from schizophenia, or his meds may even be contributing to the problems he is having. I, nor anyone here, is qualified to make that kind of diagnostic decision, so if possible see if you can get some professional help for your bf, let drs know the symptoms he is having. I hope you will be able to do this soon.
