Trileptal...the golden pill - Bipolar Disorder Message Board

My doctor just prescribed trileptal (300 mg daily) to treat my recent diagnosis of bp2. I take 1 ativan everyday and stay off the leaded coffee.

I've read good things about trileptal, but it doesn't seem to be doing much for me. It's only been a 5 days and all it seems to do is make me a little drowsy.

I'm always moody, very sensitive and nearly always irritable...oh let's not forget depressed, paranoid and lost my self-esteem years ago. I've got a long road of recovery ahead of me but I'm trying to keep a positive outlook on things. My doc hasn't mentioned the need of any other meds to help some of my other issues. Shouldn't he or is Trileptal the golden pill?

My 6 year old daughter started on Trileptal about 10 days ago (300 mg. a day). He just upped it to 600 mg. a day. We've noticed no glaring improvement yet, but maybe a slight improvement. We are hoping that it will get better with time. Good luck to you!

I just stopped taking Trileptal about a week ago because it was messing with my already present concentration problems, but I think it works good, and without many side effects. 300mg is the starting dose, so maybe your pdoc will raise it in time. I found that when I stopped the Trileptal I got restless and irritable first, and then depressed, so it definitely was helping with that. I'm also BP II. Good luck!
