bipolar 2 & depression meds don't make me feel different - Bipolar Disorder Message Board

i've been going to this psychiatrist since sometime in july, he diagnosed me with bipolar type 2 disorder and depression.

he prescribed me lamictal 25mg (now taking 100mg) and trazodone 50mg (now taking 100mg)

i really don't feel any different from when i first started going, except for my sleep habits

i told him this last time and he said that the medicine has to take time to work, so i have to feel like crap until it decides to work?

i feel like my boyfriend hates me and that everything that i do is wrong, the whole reason i went to the psychiatrist in the first place is because i wanted to make our relationship better, because i was mean to him and denied it A LOT!

i mean i've wanted to go to a psychiatrist ever since my mom passed away in 2000 (i was 14 turning 15) but never had the courage or my father wouldn't take me because he said i was fine..i guess the whole relationship deal pushed me further..i mean our relationship is much better, but i still feel like crap and i still feel like i treat EVERYBODY like crap..

and i've been spending way too much money..

i don't know, i just don't think this medicine is helping..

Since July 2006? If so, you may just need longer time to adjust to the medication. I heard it can take anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months for it to really take affect.

Plus from personal experience it is pretty much a constant adjustment of medication to ensure proper levels. And seems like I'm always having to run and have lab work done.

It is very frustrating to maintain balance in your life. Takes a great deal of patience and control, not only in yourself...but those around you as well. You need a good support system around you that will work with you and your doctors to ensure you are on the right track.

if you're talking july this year you have to give the meds much longer to work. i was diagnosed bipolar II may this year and mine are only just starting to help me. My pdoc described it as the illness developing over a long amount of time, so the meds can take a long amount of time to stabilise it!
There's also so many different meds and it could take a while to find the right combination, but when you do, things will be so much better.
Dont give up!!
