HTP-5 for bipolars?

I know this substance helps insomniacs, but does it help Bipolars? I wouldn't experiment blindly, but keep wondering if I need a mild mood enhancer instead of just the 'stabilizer' I'm getting (Geodon). I know Bipolars must be cautious of anything that raises mood, of course, for fear of becoming Manic.

Be careful, some of these can go against your normal meds.
I wonder about adding stuff like this? If it helped and did not hurt. I'd do it too.
Be careful
God Bless

Re: HTP-5 for bipolars?

5HTP is an amino acid that promotes the production of norepinephrine, dopamine, and seratonin. I've been told by doctors that 5HTP is generally contraindicated for people on drugs which alter serotonin metabolism, namely SSRIs and MAOIs. As far as other mood stablizing drugs I would ask your doctor.
