I'm really sorry for you after 10 years taking Paxil. Were you diagnosed BiPolar I or BiPolar II? I'm BiPolar II, which means anti-depressants work the opposite on me...I took Prozac for 4 years...was almost lost by the drug itself.
I can't tell you when or if you will ever feel better; it's nasty illness with not a lot of medications that help. I believe they've tried them all on me so I speak from some experience.
The day you feel "normal" will be a good day, hopefully that will be the day that the medications you were given begin to work.
I wish you the best in this journey, it is an extremely long one no matter what they tell you. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise, therapy does help, medications may help...but we are all and always will be fighting this disease.
Sorry to give you more negative than positive...but I've lived with this for my entire life...somedays are okay...most are the 7th level of Hell.
Take care of yourself, my sincere thoughts are with you!

Re: lost and confused newly diagnosed

I was on Paxil for a couple of yrs and others before that also, off and on meds for the past 20 ish yrs. I just found out the same back in november. You ask if you have been on a mania? well you need to look back through the yrs and decide if the things you did were a mania. Researching this is a good way of getting to know bipolar. I found a site I love. Citrus health . org. there is a woman on there that yes has wrote books but her site is great. read all of her entries (like a journal) and it will help you to understand more. Her name is julie. I look back and i had many mania's with triggers I can identify with now. I hate the meds I am on know but keep listening to everyone that it takes awhile to get the right cocktail. Did they take you off paxil and did they do it gradually? DONT GO COLD TURKEY!!!!! I can't say that enough. Tell your doc no way. The effects are toooooo great. Stay with us as you can learn alot. Good luck Tired06
