Angry "all you have to do is pop your pills and you'll be fine"

I haven't posted on here in ages, but I HAVE to vent. My father's brother and his wife are out here from England at the moment, and their adopted son has bipolar, as do I. If I have to hear my uncle's wife say "all you have to do is pop your pills and you'll be fine" one more time I'm going to rip her head off with my bare hands . If only it were that ******* easy. Take a pill and you'll be fine. Pfft whatever. Medication definitely helps...but it's definitely not the be-all and end-all, and just because you're on meds doesn't mean that life is going to be a bed of roses.
It just makes me SOOOO when people totally devalue things like strength, insight, resilience and resourcefulness - things that are as important to recovery and maintenance as medication. It's almost like saying that the *****-fight it takes to pull yourself back together after an episode, and the strength that is needed to walk the tightrope when necessary, are worth absolutely nothing.

I can definately relate to that. I recently quit taking most of my medication and that made me realize how medicated I was. I even lost a job because the people at work were suspicious of "what I had been taking" as you do become zombie like when you are overly medicated. Maybe you should talk to this person and explain that this kind of mentality will only cost her son more grief - I agree - and tell her he needs to have somebody to talk to - a professional. I wish you the best.
