lack of sleep - mixed symptoms?

Hi,

Due to relatives coming to stay, I've been consigned to the couch for a few nights and so have been sleeping like s*it. Lack of sleep is usually a big trigger for me, but along with the usual things - irritability, restlessness, sped-up thoughts and whatnot - I've been as teary as anything...??

Re: lack of sleep - mixed symptoms?

I can totally sympathize, in fact Im kind of a little hypomanic right now myself and your post reminded me to go take my meds, some benedryl to help me unwind a little and make me drowsy. Other times I make myself something warm to drink then read or watch tv and drift off to sleep.
As a last resort I get out the benedryl or other sleep aid and play computer games until I get drowsy. Company will be leaving soon and things will get back to normal. Hang in there!

Re: lack of sleep - mixed symptoms?

Irritability and agitation mixed with tearfulness/depression sounds like a mixed episode to me. It may subside after the company leaves and you get some good sleep. I had a mixed episode for 3 months last year and I had to start on Lithium for the first time in over 8 years since diagnosis. If you continue to feel this way, you may have to talk with p-doc about tweaking meds, that is if you are taking meds. I hope things work out for you and you feel better soon - soft
