OMG!!!!!!! Tonight is Christmas Eve and I just can't get happy! My 16 yr old son bought his 16 yr old girlfriend a 10k ring w/ her birthsone in it and her mom a book and her dad a cd and her little sister a Brats doll! He has a part time job so he saved his money to do all that. Well, tonight they had their little get-together and he came home with a candle and a pair of gloves!!!!!!! What the heck? I know that's not the "Christmas spirit" but my point is that he has such a big and giving nature---just like me and I just know his heart is going to get broken. I feel sooo bad for him---even though he seems to be ok. But wouldn't you feel bad if you put so much time, effort and money into something and then it seems like they didn't take much time thinkng of you? Remember, we're talking about a good hearted 16 yr old. I don't know, maybe it's just me because I've had my feelings hurt like that well, all my life! I didn't say anything to him like that ---I just told all of you good people

As a mother I can totally understand how you feel. I would feel that way too but I don't think that at 16 he should be buying a 16 yr old girl a 10k ring. At that age they are in love one day and not the next. Your son is a good hearted and generous person and as a mother I know you feel sad when he is treated unfairly. The gifts he got actually are more appropriate for the age they are. Has he said anything about it or is he content with what he got? When we give we often don't get anything back and we can be happy about that too. I love giving and never care what I get back. My mother side understands you though.

No, he's fine. We had a good Christmas today. And you're right--he shouldn't have given her that but he just wouldn't listen. They've been "dating" for 6 mos and she's his first serious girlfriend. He does like to give---and it's from his heart. He is content with what he recieved. It's just hard 4 me as a mom 2 see him extend himself that way-4 anyone, ya know?

At seventeen, I agree. I don't think the ring was exactly appropriate, but if he's pleased with it...Just hope it wasn't a manic impulse. I bought my siblings way too expensive gifts as well, partly because of a manic high, for Christmas. While I don't exactly regret it, I know in my normal state of mind I wouldn't have done it. Well, not sure if any of that made sense. Kind of in a weird mood right now, but that's my two cents.
