What meds worked best? Why?

I am currently on Seroquel 400 mg for my bipolar. I am really thinking about talking to the Dr. about changing meds. I am all of a sudden feeling hung over again. I have trouble waking up in the mornings. If I do not take them before 8 am, I can not get up before 7. Even then I have a horrible headache and feel like I have been drinking all night. The bad part about that is, it makes me tired in about an hour, so when I take it at 8, I am out by 9. It really limits my time and how alert I am. 2 times this week I have not sent my daughter to preschool b/c I could not get myself woken up.

The only thing I hate about changeing meds is, This one does work for the most part during the day. 99% of the time I feel great. I just hate the drunk feeling all the time.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Re: What meds worked best? Why?

The woman I love started on that before we found out she has bipolar, the doctor added Depakote, and quickly switched to Tegretol. My question would be why not some sort of mood stabilizer? I am no doctor, but that is what I would want a good answer for. I have read alot and there seems to be good reason to not treat bipolar with just antidepressants. So have a good talk with your doctor, that way you are comfortable with what you are on and it helps you cope and thrive.

Re: What meds worked best? Why?

Hello TT,

I would suggest talking to your pdoc, explaining the issues you're having. Some people break up the dosage into morning and night, or take part of it at some point during the day. There are ways around this problem of it making you so tired and hung-over feeling.

How is it working other than this?

Re: What meds worked best? Why?

I still have my ups and downs. I am struggleing with my weight also, so it does not help that. I posted a couple weeks ago about my 52 hour awake period. I let the Dr. know about that and he told me if I felt it comeing on, to increase by another 200mg. I do not feel comfortable doing that though b/c of how it makes me feel. I do have my edgey days where i feel like i am going to snap all day, but I have more good days then bad. Reading this it looks like it is not working, but compated to how I was, this is great. I just wish it was better.

Re: What meds worked best? Why?

Have you been diagnosed bipolar? I too think you'd do better with a mood stabilizer as your first med, in addition to the seroquel....
