New here, looking for something - Bipolar Disorder Message Board

Hi everyone! Im a 29 year old who has been diagnosed bipolar, though I haven't been told 1 or 2. I've been on other forums but haven't found any that really seem to be overly supportive or helpful to me. So, I guess you could say Im looking for my niche, so to speak.

Right now Im having a rough time. Im currently hypomanic. Im on 100 mg Lamictal (recently down from 150 mg, for some reason), 160 mg of Geodon, and 600 mg of Trileptal. I've been this way for a couple months now. I just feel so bad, because Im so angry. I start fights with my husband. Im not a good/nice driver when Im like this, and that scares me. I have two young children also, and don't want to do anything stupid on the road. Im also a spender when Im manic, and while it's not as bad right now as it's been in the past, I do use my credit card more than I should. Right now my pdoc is on vacation for the next two weeks, and I just feel like Im going crazy, and don't know what to do. Also Im scared of other drugs, because I've already gained a ton of weight on various drugs, and on my current cocktail Im finally losing some weight. Im terrified of Depakote, because of the side effects, and am scared my pdoc is going to make that my next option, because he mentioned it at my last appointment. I just don't know what to do. I feel like no one is here for me and no one understands.

Hopefully some of you understand, and maybe even have some advice to give. Thanks!

Hi KosmicWonder,

Welcome to the board. I think you'll find it to be very supportive.

I'm BP (not 100% sure which, I think II) and also take Geodon 160 mg.

I guess it does sound like you may need a med adjustment. Is there an "on call" Pdoc to handle things while your own Pdoc is away?

I know what it's like in the manic stage so I know you're probably going to be checking this board often to see if anyone has replied yet. For that reason I wanted to say hi and I look forward to speaking to you. It's late here though and I have to get up early so I need to go and get some sleep but I did want to let you know that even though I only just joined the site the people in this board have already made me feel so welcome and understood and I'm sure they will do the same for you too.

Hi Kosmic and Welcome to the board....

Looking at the meds you're on I would already think, other than the low dose of Lamictal, that you were on a good cocktail. But I'm not Dr and am actually waiting to see my new pdoc here (moved 3 mths ago and it took me forever to get in with one). I was just DX'd 6 mths ago and have been on 100mg of Lamictal for that time now and have had some issues recently and I know I need mine increased.

You will find everyone here VERY helpful and supportive. Everyone on here actually cares about one another. I have found this board and all of those on it to help me out a great deal in the past few weeks.

I hope you get your meds ironed out soon. Again welcome and I look forward to talking with you more. We all have been where you are and know completely how you feel.
