Tegretol and weight gain? - Bipolar Disorder Message Board

Hi all!
I posted this in the epilepsy forum but haven't had any response so I thought I'd try here as well. How many of you on carbamezepine have experienced weight gain? I was just switched from Topamax to hopefully control my siezures better. I've always had trouble controlling my weight and the topa helped me loose some weight an I'm worried that it'll be all down the drain. Of course seizure control is more important, but I also have high blood pressure to worry about as well, so it's just something I'm a little worried about.

You may have some weight gain, but that would probably be related to no longer taking the topomax. I have heard people say they gain it back when they stop the med. I also took topomax, I gained weight.

I took tegretal for a while and I can't remember gaining weight, and I would remember that!
