What country do you live in? Different countries have different means of obtaining free or cheap medical care.
In the mean-time, it is important to remember that you yourself are one of the most important and strongest weapons you have against this illness. I learnt from watching my Dad let his Bipolar control him that I wouldn't let mine get the upper hand. My Dad, in the last few years, has learnt the same lesson and has never been happier and healthier (at least five years without a severe episode - awesome stuff)
Yes, it is easier said than done - I fight this illness each and every day. The people in my life who I cherish and love are my inspiration. When I have had a good day, I can look back upon it and be proud of myself, and even reward myself for good work! When I've had a crappy day, I just lean on my loved ones, or on a support network (like this one) who understands the illness.
Hang in there - you can get the upper hand *hugs*
