I Need a New Life

Focusing on treating my illness over the last few has caused me to fall out of touch with many of my friends. Sme of my remaining friends are toxic ( I'm working on changing that) and I need new ones. I've just been wondering is it all my fault? I am in college (commuter) and I'm finding it difficult to relate to people my own age now that I'm trying again. Does anyone have advice on how to start over?

Re: I Need a New Life

that happens.

mental illness forces us to take a closer look at who we are and makes us question our old values.

it is like other people's lack of self becomes glaringly obvious.

unfortunately, that is a lot of people.

so when it comes time to make new friends we are drawn towards a different type.

and those are the ones that are harder to find.

you have to keep an open mind. maybe give someone a chance you would have never given otherwise. talk to everyone. we are all pretty much in the same boat in this screwed up world.

i wish you the best,
kathy

Re: I Need a New Life

wow great thread.. i have been there before.. i used to have loads of toxic party type friends.. Eventually i wanted to change, so i changed my number and decided to start going to church.. I am 6years sober now of drugs and cigarreets and alcohol.. Start by not answering there calls and keep saying No if these toxic associates want to hang out with you.. Look for more positive friends.. I have bipolar too for over 10 years now.. You are not alone.. You can find nice friends in college or at church or at a library.. Changing your environment is always helpful too. If you ever bump into these associates pretend your in a rush and make is snappy to leave the situation..
