Why is it that I hardly ever see questions or comments regarding Topamax?
Is it because it is that good? It is the #3 most prescribed bipolar drug.
Are any of you taking it? I am. I'm just curious who else is.
I think it's great. For my moods and weight loss.
Or is it that it is so good that the people taking it are in good shape mentally that they don't bother with these boards? Just a thought.

Re: Topamax

I can't answer your question, of course, since I am not on that med. I did try it, and was so sick I couldn't eat at all, and I cannot afford to lose any weight at all.
I also turned into a mental incompetent, unable to remember words.
I'm glad you're having a good response to it and hope it continues to help you.

Re: Topamax

Hi. I take Topomax, it was orginally diagnosed for a seizure disorder and cluster migraines. And is has served me well. As a side effect is also works on my BP. I think part of the answer to your question is that Topomax is not a drug that is widely presribed. It can have some pretty serious side effects, such as rapid weight loss (in unhealthy amounts), kidney stone problems, neurological problems, which can become permanent. I've been on Topomax for almost 2 years now, I lost 50 lbs in the first 6 weeks and had no appetite whatsoever, I had to be checked by my psychiatrist onece a week for weight and food intake. 4 months after starting Topomax I was in the hospital having surgery to remove a large kidney stone, and I currently have a 2nd stone in my right kidney that my docs are watching. Neurologically, my memory is somewhat off, I have trouble verbalizing words and thoughts sometimes, etc. So it can be one of those drugs that scare people off, it's a matter of weighing the gain against the risk.

Re: Topamax

That is also part of the problem...people want this drug to use as a weight loss drug, and it's just far too dangerous, as in side effects, for it to be used as that. I think some docs are wary to prescribe it for that reason.
