Just because you aren't losing weight doesn't mean it has stopped working. The other meds you are taking may interact with it, as well as your body chemistry. Especially in females your body can change very rapidly and with no warning. Just one more wonderful thing about those things we call hormones but because we are so hormonal everything is different for us. I would bring it up to your doc so they can be aware of the situation and just keep an eye on everything else. I wouldn't worry unless you notice other cahnges as well.
Im on nothing else and all the other side effects arent there either which is weird also! Im on it for bi polar but it is obvious to me when I was on it before what the side effects in the past where for me to what they are now! I dont have any. I feel Topamax should be working the same exact way.
Just curious, your on it for BP, why only for a few months at a time? and like others state, be thankful the side effects aren't there, you should be able to tell if the med is doing what it's supposed to do for your BP.
I'm on it for Bipolar, too. I've been taking it for 3 years. I lost over 60 pounds. I have heard that if you stop taking it and then start it again, you won't reap the benefits of weight loss the second time around.
Seaturtle is right, I take Topomax for Cluster Migraines and a Seizure Disorder and when I first started I lost 45 lbs. in 6 weeks. It was pretty rough on my body, not to mention I had docs all over me about eating...
I agree with Kathryn00... we take so many pills that cause side effects, that when one of those side effects wear off it leads us to believe the drug itself isnt working. If you are taking it as a bi-polar patient, than you need it as a mood stabilizer. Is the drug working any less because you are not continuing to lose weight? I think Topomax is a good drug that can actually be used for many causes in different doses. But I want to stress - if you have quit losing weight it doesnt mean the drug is no longer doing its job.
My moods are still wacky back then I was also on lexapro which was great but because of my change of insurance i had to change dr's and this one's more hard hearded. I know what my body needs. but I think I need a different mood pill I dont think the topamax is working for me
