Question for all re: med mgmt appts.

Okay I've read hundreds of appointments of these boards and people and many of y'all mention 15 minute appts. with your Pdocs. Is this how your pdocs do it??? Can someone clarify this for me?

This just blows me away. I see my Pdoc every 2 -3 weeks and have 30 minute appointments. Then see my Tdoc every week for an hour appt. and if I need a second appt. w/Tdoc it's also an hour. If I have to see Pdoc before my 2 or 3 week appt. its still 30 minutes.

Re: Question for all re: med mgmt appts.

Kat,

I think this varies from one pdoc to another. My old pdoc only saw me for 15 minutes, but my current pdoc sees me for 25-30 minutes. I also think the frequency by which you see a pdoc varies. My old pdoc always wanted to see me every 3 months despite the fact that I was struggling with rapid cycling and mania while my new pdoc prefers to see me every 2-3 weeks. As far as my tdoc is concerned, I used to see him every 2 weeks until I was diagnosed with PTSD last month. Ever since then, he requested that I see him once a week or twice a week if needed for 55 minutes since I have alot of issues to work on.

Re: Question for all re: med mgmt appts.

It also depends on your health insurance/financial situation. Right now, my health insurance pays for me to have hour long appointments with my pdoc, so I do. But if that changed, I would have to switch down to the 15 minute appointments because I can't afford to make up the difference. I come in every three months if things are going well, more often if I need to.
