I havent been feeling good at all since i had a bad seizure in oct2008.I was diagnosed first with depression and tried Effexor,Cymbalta,Lexapro and so on,nothing worked then i saw a new doctor and he diagnosed me with Bipolar II,gave me Lamictal,Klonapin,Seroquel and Topamax.I was 125lbs,withing two months i went to 150 because the seroquel just made me eat and put all the weight on but it helped me sleep.I stopped all the meds and went cold turkey and had a seizure due to stopping the meds.2 weeks of detox were hell. Now i cant sleep, lost all the weight but im so unhappy and have new inusurance and cant afford any meds and my husband is against the meds.I was laid off, dont go out, have bad anxiety attacks and so sad and angry all the time.He doesnt understand me at all and i've tried so many times to explain how i feel. There are days where i just cant take it anymore and just cry.I dont wish to give up but im not doing anything to change my life right now.I dont know what to do anymore
It must be hell for you right now, knowing you are unwell and not finding a treatment that works for you. One of the biggest problems with treating mental health is that diagnosis is very difficult it can take years. Also so little is known about how the brain works and the cause of many mental illnesses. The drugs all work in different ways and effect different parts of the brain and the chemicals in your nervous system. Most of the drugs will take a while to work. There are other options that may help you, such as saint johns wort and fish oils with omega 3. Saint johns wort can interact with other drugs, it has helped me when I had mild depression in the past. lots of exercise help to release the chemical in our brain that help us feel happy.
I do think you need to seek further help, maybe from another doctor if possible.
I know it's easier said than done, but try to hang in there. If you need to get a second opinion, do so. I know someone who is well-know and has rapid cycling BPII with psychotic features. She tried over 20 different meds before she found one that worked (Lamictal) and even then, it took a year for the side effects to disappear. She said that although it was a difficult struggle to wait that long for the side effects to go away, for her the benefits of Lamictal far outweigh the negatives. I hope you're able to find a med combo that works. Good luck.
