Yay I finally went to see my pdoc after 7 days of not sleeping

I forget who it was that told me to update on what would happen when I got the chance to see the pdoc. Well anyways I saw him and reccommended that I go on melatonin as you girls suggested. But he also put me on something called lithium to help control my mixed state and manic state during the nights. He also said it should help with the racing thoughts as well. This will be the first night that I'll be on this and personally I can't wait to see if this works because if it does I could finally get a good nights sleep.

Under,
I'm so happy to hear that for you! Let me know how it goes sleeping tonight. It will probably be the best sleep of your life.

Under, glad you got to your pdoc and he made some positive steps. Don't be upset if you don't see an immediate improvement from the Lithium, it's one of those drugs that has to build up in your system to a therapeutic dose, so give it some time to work, before you give up on it. I hope the melatonin works and you get some sleep. If it doesn't call your pdoc and ask him if you can use Valerian Root, that is another herbal that helps promote sleep.

Re: Yay I finally went to see my pdoc after 7 days of not sleeping

under,

I'm sorry for my late response to your thread. It has been a very difficult day for me.

Anyways, I'm glad you were able to see your pdoc and receive some meds to help with sleep and your moods.

How much Lithium do you take? I used to take Lithium in 1991, but no longer remember if it worked for me or not.

I hope it works well for you.

Re: Yay I finally went to see my pdoc after 7 days of not sleeping

Starting on 150mg of it then increasing it to 300mg of lithium eventually. So far I have had success with the melatonin. It has put me to sleep. But I still get racing thoughts though. Not just in the night now but during the day as well which is wierd because I would never get them during the day. Thanks to all of your replys. Its great hearing from all of you.

Your racing thoughts could be due to your meds. I know some mood stabilizers can cause anxiety, so you may want to mention this to your pdoc.

Well this anxiety thing has been going on since September. Thats when it really started to get bad. I still haven't found the right med for it.

Re: Yay I finally went to see my pdoc after 7 days of not sleeping

Well for the past two days now since I've seen the pdoc and started taking the melatonin I've slept good. Its just the anxiety and the racing thoughts that have the potential to keep me up during the night. I know last night I had racing thoughts that kept me up for an hour so I didn't fall asleep till 1pm. I'm actually worried that this trend where I'm not going to be getting any sleep will come back. Even with the melatonin I don't really feel that tired. I have to wait till 1 or 2 oclock to get to sleep.

under,

What time do you normally wake up in the morning? If you're getting 6-8 hours of sleep, you should be fine.

At around 6 or 7 am. Can't sleep any longer than that.

Re: Yay I finally went to see my pdoc after 7 days of not sleeping

5-6 hours of sleep isn't too bad although it would be nice if you could get a solid 7 or 8 hours.

Re: Yay I finally went to see my pdoc after 7 days of not sleeping

My pdoc says each person needs between 6 and 9 hrs. sleep, but it's up to you to decide where you're at. I couldn't imagine sleeping for 9 hours a night.

I'm probably a 6 - 7 hr. person.
