I Did It!!!

Hi everyone,

I broke my old record of not rapid cycling for 9 days. I'm now on day 10. I'm so excited! Yay for me, my new med regimen and my wonderful pdoc! My pdoc deserves all the credit because if it weren't for him, this never would have happened. I haven't been this stable in 1.5 years!

By the way, if this keeps up, I can't wait to see my pdoc in June. I know he'll be just as delighted as I am if I continue to remain stable.

Wow congratulations dreams. Hope this keeps up. You know its interesting, your risperadol seems to be working the second time around. Can meds actually work differently if you try it a second time (normally)

Thanks, under!

From what my pdoc told me, the reason why my Risperdal is working so well the second time around is because I'm taking it in conjunction with Clonazepam.

If Risperdal is taken with a med like Clonazepam, the latter increases its' efficacy.

When I started taking Risperdal 2 years ago, I was only on Depakote, so my pdoc thinks that's the reason why it didn't help me.

Re: I Did It!!!

I also wanted to add that it's definitely possible for meds to work the second time they are taken. This was true for me in regards to Prozac. When I took it in 1991, it didn't do anything to relieve my severe depression. I'm now taking it 18 years later and it's working wonderfully well. I've been on Prozac for 3.5 months now and haven't felt depressed since December.

Re: I Did It!!!

Thanks Kat and Llama!

Kat, you're right. I *have* wanted this for a long time. I only wish I had seen a different pdoc sooner instead of allowing my previous pdoc to continue ignoring my symptoms. Oh well. Better late than never!

Re: I Did It!!!

Ben,

I think another reason why Risperdal didn't work for me 2 years ago is because my voices would become more intense if I was agitated.

Now that I'm on Clonazepam and I no longer cycle into agitation, there is a greater chance of Risperdal working the way it should.

Re: I Did It!!!

Dreams,
I'm so glad to hear this! That is awesome for you! I'm glad you feel stable and so good. We all deserve it, after all we go through! Keep up with this med regimen. It sounds like it's really working for you, which is amazing. It gives us all hope and strength to keep trying when others are feeling well.

Thanks, caitlin!

My pdoc thinks that the addition of Clonazepam has made all the difference. He also thinks Fluoxetine is helping to decrease my depression.

I noticed that when I was hypomanic 2 weeks ago, taking Clonazepam helped me avoid rapid cycling into extreme agitation or severe depression. It was the first hypomanic episode I actually enjoyed. Normally, I HATE hypomania.

On another note, I found a wonderful mood chart online that I'm starting to use. It charts your moods on a graph as well as your sleep and anxiety patterns.

It also gives you a listing of your meds, their dosages and allows you to input journal entries for each day.

If you'd like to look at a history of your moods, you can search by month, every 30 days, every 45 days, 1st quarter, 2nd quarter, 3rd quarter or year.

Ben: Since you'll be starting a new med for your anxiety soon, you may want to check out this mood chart since it shows your anxiety level throughout the month.

Congratulations! I know how it feels to go through rapid cycling because I used to until they fixed my meds. Keep it up but remember not to consider a "broken" day as a major setback. Just keep on going for those good days will increase hopefully.
