Tony (Anthony) Robbins -- peak performance strategist

Is anyone familiar with Tony Robbins?

Anyone attend one of his programs? Anyone familiar with his take on depression and bi-polar?

Tony believes medication is not the answer....and after attending his "Date with Destiny" course, I decided to go off of my meds. It was disastrous for me. I am now on week 5 of going back on Lamictal after being med-free for 4 months.

Has anyone used any of his programs?

I've never used any of Tony's programs nor do I plan to.

Research has proven that if bipolar is left untreated, it can lead to progressively worse manic episodes as one ages.

I've been off meds before and the results were not pretty.

I've only stopped taking my meds twice during the 3 years I've been diagnosed.

The first time was when I was manic. I stopped taking my meds for 7 days and before I knew it, my voices, delusions and paranoia came back with a vengeance.

Not too long ago I refused to take Klonopin to help prevent me from rapid cycling into agitation. I was so upset about having to be on meds that I decided not to take Klonopin at all. Let's just say it was a bad decision on my part and I'll never do that again.

From now on, I plan to be 100% med-compliant no matter how I feel about meds.

Re: Tony (Anthony) Robbins -- peak performance strategist

I would never plan to conscienciously go off my meds. I've done it before in periods when I think I'm "healed" but that was a disaster and caused me to become so severely depressed that I couldn't function and ended up in bed 24/7 for weeks at a time. I have been med compliant for the last year and 7 months and will not stop taking my meds ever again. I personally think anyone that promotes a program where the encourage people to stop taking their meds should be stopped by the medical community, because they are creating a dangerous situation for people with Bi-Polar. Some people could actually die from not taking their meds.

Re: Tony (Anthony) Robbins -- peak performance strategist

I've read his books on selling and I think they're brilliant.

OTOH, I think he's terribly irresponsible telling people they can go off meds for BP. I don't have BP- my Ex did, and I spent plenty of time on a BPSO (Bipolar Significant Other) Listserve. I think most docs would agree that BP is due to a chemical imbalance in the brain. It makes sense to treat it with chemicals- especially if they're working. I'd give Tony Robbins about as much credibility as I would Tom Cruz on this subject.
