Other meds for BP?

I am unable to take a lot of meds (SSRIs, SNRIs, etc.) because of a bladder problem I have. Any of the drugs that effect serotonin cause me painful, frequent urination and make me very sick.

Also - the antidepressants usually make me manic.

I suffer from anxiety, irritability, depression and sleeplessness. Here is my most recent med lineup:

100mg Seroquel at night
2mg. Abilify during day
1mg of Klonopin

Seroquel has helped me a lot (I'm guessing this is probably still a low dose?). It seems to help with my anxiety and depression.

The abilify has really helped with my depression, but I don't know if I am having anxiety, hyperness or akathesia - or does akathesia make you feel anxious and hyper?

Is Klonopin a good med to help with the hyperness and anxiety of abilify?

Re: Other meds for BP?

Have you thought about upping your seroquel and getting rid of the abilify (after talking to your pdoc, of course)? It handles anxiety well, in my experience, once you find the right dose. My pdoc says it also helps with depression, but I haven't really noticed that, probably because I rely on Lamictal primarily to handle that.

Re: Other meds for BP?

I was on abilify for a few weeks. It (the akathesia) does make you hyper and anxious. I found it unbearable and switched off of it. I don't know about klonopin. I was prescribed a tranquilizer (lorazepam) which just added tired to the hyper/anxiety. Good luck!

Re: Other meds for BP?

My doc started me on abilify but told me i couldnt have side effects at only 2 mg, so i wonder if that is what is really bothering you. He put me on it for my restlessness so go figure. I never know what the docs are thinking

hi, all those seem to be v.low doses. seroquel is great for relieving anxiety etc. abilify can cause horrible side effects, facial ticks, involuntary movements, i had to go off it because of these and then take another med for a week to stop the effects. For other people abilify can be an excellent drug, one of my sisters takes it and she has found it wonderful for increasing motivation and alleviating depression. klonopin is great for hyperactivity and anxiety. the best thing you can do is go see your pdoc and explain to him/her all your concerns and side effects you are experiencing. he should be able to adjust your meds accordingly. good luck with it.
