Xanax, Zoloft and Trileptal

So, I finally got to see my doctor after waiting nearly five months! I feel so relieved and at the same time terrified at how awful starting yet another round of medication is going to be. She decided to double my dose of Trileptal and has taken out Effexor and replaced it with Xanax and Zoloft.

I hate when I have to take something new because I have to start at the lowest dose and work my way up and it feels like nothing is really working at all. It seems like it takes forever to figure out if a med is for you or not. Like all that hard work is for nothing in the end and you have to go back to zero. So far the Zoloft and Trileptal feel like nothing. The Xanax is taking a bit of the edge off when it comes to my panic, but no drastic changes.

I don't know why, but I've always been so skeptical of antidepressants like Zoloft, Prozac and so forth. I guess they just feel so generic. It seems like everyone and their mom uses them. I swear my heart sank to the bottom of my stomach when she said, "Let's try Zoloft and Xanax." I just wanted to walk out of the office.

I feel like I'm probably going to need a higher dosage of Xanax, but I'm becoming a bit more hopeful that it will work for me. I guess I'm just worried about the Zoloft. I know it has a high tolerance rate as far as side effects go and that's not really what I'm worried about (I'd rather have physical pain than emotional pain any day). But what I'd like to hear is how it's worked for other people. My doctor could recite facts to me all day, but you guys have had the actual experience with it so your opinions matter most to me

Did you feel more stimulated or sedated? Are you still on it? If not, why did you stop?

Re: Xanax, Zoloft and Trileptal

The main thing about the Zoloft is that it can cause nasty headaches and brain zaps, if the dose gets off.

As for Xanax, please be very careful with that particular Benzo....it is highly addictive and very hard to detox from one you've become addicted/dependant. Personally I'd ask her to change it Klonopin, which is widely used in BP patients and doesn't have the dangerous sides.

take care,

kat
