Mania

So I started abilify 12 days ago and it has helped depression ands motivations a little but my anxiety paranoia and manias are still strong especially manias I find my self having to take klonopin to calm down a Lil, it doesn't make it go away but make it so I'm not freaking out and being angry or extremely figity I'm only on 5mg of abilify I want to up that dose and switch to Xanax or something with a shorter half life and not as addictive which is here or there but any way anyone have suggestions about any of this?

Re: Mania

You have to give the drugs time to build up in your BPL (blood plasma levels) so that they can work at their therapeutic levels. Generally pdocs like to give a new med or new dose at least 2 weeks, then work up if your not getting relief.

As for switching to Xanax from Klonopin. Xanax is an incredibly addictive (quickly) and hard to detox from medication, if you can make the Klonopin work by increasing the dose, it's a lot safer than heading to Xanax.

Take care,

Kat

Re: Mania

Hi,

What other meds are you on if you don't mind me asking? Any mood stablizers? I was on abilify be quit due to gastro problems. Most antidepressants effects me in a negative way so I don't take them. Except remeron and elavil. Thats it out of all of them.

Re: Mania

Went to my doctor today said it was depression and anxiety so I have to see my pdoc to get an actual diagnosis but he upped my abilify to 10mg and filled my klonopin so we will see how it goes I also take flexaril but just switched to robaxin so I'm straitening out my insurance and seeing the right doctor. Thanks for the posts
