Starting Abilify, What Should I Expect?

I was on an SNRI (Pristiq) to help me with anxiety and depression, but it didn't seem to work. I was referred to by my doctor to a psychiatrist to see if I had bipolar (had many of the symptoms) and she ended up giving me abilify. First a 2mg dose and to gradually go up from there.
What should I expect?

Akathisia. Grinding, relentless akathisia. Worst side effect of all.

Re: Starting Abilify, What Should I Expect?

I was diagnosed with Rapid Cycling BPII in January. My family doctor had had me on Seroquel and Trazodone for maintenance until I could get in to see a psychiatrist to get an official diagnosis. I'd been on a variety of other medications prior, as well - Cipralex, Risperidone, and a handful of others.

The psychiatrist put me on Abilify, 2mg to start, and I had a horrible time on it. Lots of tension, aggression, emotional outbursts, very edgy/paranoid. I was only able to stay on it for a month.

I hope that you have better luck with it!

I have great results with abilify. However it will make kinda sick(emotional, anxious, tummy trouble) when you first start it. I take 20 mg of it. I couldn't live without it. I was on seroquel before and it made me real foggy.
