Smile Possible misdiagnosis-help with switch from lamictal to ssri?

I am newly on Lamictal (been on for about two months), and I am currently taking 75mg. I went up to 200 (as is generally the plan with Lamictal), but I experienced intense depressive thoughts at 200 mg and had to come back down.

I have been at 75mg for about two weeks now, and I have noticed that though my mood is stabilizing, it is generally a depressed mood that I'm in. I am scared to go back up on this medication, and I am wondering if maybe I was misdiagnosed with bipolar II disorder. I came in to the doctor during a time of extreme work and personal life stress, so perhaps I actually have major depressive disorder but with situational anxiety.

Also, I am 28 and a female, so I would like to consider pregnancy, and being on Lamictal during pregnancy is not advised.

If anyone has gone from Lamictal to an SSRI, I would greatly appreciate your input, especially if you, like me, were diagnosed during a time of acute stress, which may have led to an incorrect diagnosis. Thanks.

am no doctor by any means, but I was misdiagnosed on the reverse end of that spectrum. No one knows your body better than you, and a constant depressed mood definitely means your medication is not serving it's purpose. Anxiety and depression are typically medicated the same way. If you do not feel as though you've been experiencing manic episodes, I would suggest an SSRI over a mood stabilizer. Talk to your doctor and see if they could perhaps instruct you on weaning off Lamictal. In your weaning stage, research different medications for your symptoms, compile a list and try to work it out with your doctor, or better yet, your psychiatrist. If they are unwilling to sway their diagnosis, start fresh with a new doctor. Focus on your symptoms, not what you think you might be classified as. That way you will get a true diagnosis and hopefully find some stability. Be patient with yourself.
