Yasmin???? - Birth Control Message Board

Ok, I'm 18 years old and really want to be on BC. I'm in college so getting pregnant would not be a good thing right now. I've tried BC in the past but it always made me terribly sick (nausea, headaches) and also constipated :S. Also I'm thin and I don't want to deal with the weight gain associated with taking the pill. Does Yasmin make you gain weight?? Also what about the side affects?? I also have mild acne and I heard that yasmin will help clear up acne is that true?? Please any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!!

I tried Yasmin about 2 months ago, and had to stop after the first 3 weeks. It caused horrible depression and a lot of discharge, and virtually no sex drive.
There was no fluctuation in my weight either way, although it claims to decrease water retention. But I am on Diane 35 now and my weight is the same.

Hope your experience is better than mine.

how long did you stick with the yasmin? usually after 3 months or so your body adjusts to the pill so the side effects usually go away... I never had any at all except I gained a few pounds.

I gained about 5 lbs on BC ( Im on ortho tri cyclen)... and thats about it.... when i started taking it I was about 15 and 16 and starting to fill out everywhere anyways ( I was a late bloomer)... so being 5 feet 100 lbs it didnt bother me at all...

the weight gain isn't usually more than a few lbs if
it's any at all....

Oh and Diane 35 isn't as proective as other BCP. I was on that for 4 years and my doc took me off of it because of all the controversy surrounding it. wonderful for my skin, but not as wonderful for birth control. be sure your using condoms with it.

I was on Yasmin and after about 6 weeks I really started throwing up and horrible diarrhea. Well those conditions lessen the effectiveness of the pill (which I now know after research) and guess what, I am 14 and 1/2 weeks pregnant. Just do some research and trial and error with a condom LOL!!!

Yasmin is widly know for causing less weight gain than other birth control brands, but one never knows. If you're very thin you shouldn't really worry about gaining weight. Besides, would your rather gain weight then get pregnant? I sure would.

If you usually get sick on birth control i would suggest a low does monophasic pill. Like Mircette, or Alesse. The lower estrogen, the less side effect you'll *probably* have.

Also, i've never heard anything about Diane 35 being less effective then other birth control pills. If it WAS less effective the FDA would have pilled it off the market ASAP. All birth control pills are equally as effective, no matter what the dose of hormones is. Low does pills and high does pills protect you JUST the same, as long as you use them properly.
