birth control and also planned parenthood - Birth Control Message Board

I'm sure this question has been asked numerous times. I'd just like a lot of feedback from a lot of different women. Which is the best kind of birth control: pill, shot, patch, etc? Tell me about good and bad experiences, side effects, price, availability...anything. Also, does anyone know about Planned Parenthood? How do you qualify for free/inexpensive health care and birth control? Is it based on income? Any info is great. Thanks guys.

Ivhie.I ALSO LIVE IN EUGENE! wow! I also go to the planed parenthood on 6th street. They are great, and private! I made an appt, and when i went in they had me fill out a form asking me my income, and i said i was a student and had none at the time( even if you have income you can get it on a sliding scale)and they gave me services for a year free! I had the IUD put in me there, but i did not like it. so i am on the pill. they give me a 6 month supply. ( but i have to go there because i think i am pregnant, ha ha I can get pregnent very easy, just thinking about it almost! ha ha)I already have two....ha ha OOPS!
anyway the one in Eugene is VERY GOOD and i LOVE THEM! they are in the health unit on the 2nd floor.

Thank you so much, that's extremely helpful because you go to the one that I might. I pretty much ruled out the IUD as a choice because I read about weird side effects. Was the pill alright though?

I have been out of the loop for some time now, but will tell you my experiences. I was on the pill for about 8 yrs. and started having problems. They were that when I was on the 7 days that were the nothing pills, I never had a period. They tried many diff. brands/dosages and it was finally decided, that in my best health interest I would never be prescribed birth control pills for fear that a lack of a period could and most likely would lead to cervical cancer. This all came about as my husband and I were buying our 1st home( age 24). Well 4 weeks after closing I realized I was pregnant.I had packed out calendar when we moved and lost track of out fertile days

I had been off the pill for about 6 months. It was Fall here in Ohio and the slogans at the time at the local car lots was "Buy a car, get a pumpkin". So we decided our family motto would be "Buy a house, get a baby"

21 yrs. of marriage, 3 wonderful sons age 18, 16, 13 I have not needed nor have missed the pill. My husband has had a vasectomy about 12 yrs.ago. Now that I am almost 43 I have to rely on hormones again to make me have periods as I am not in menopause but without the damn hormones my body will not have a period. Life is grand. I suppose it could be alot worse.

This is my experience....probably not a whole heck of a lot of help, but felt the need to respond. Hope you find what you are looking for

Before even thinking about depo please be advised it can have nasty long term almost permanent side effects. There are a few women who do well with it but that is very few in comparison to the number of horror stories of what has happened to women who take it. One person I know quite well and when her hubby found the info and they took it to her doctor the doc apologized profusely saying if she had only known she would have never prescribed the shot for her. Birth control pills work well for most women and since each person reacts differently to medications your best bet would be to let the doc help decide what might work best for you should you decide to go that route. If you haven't had kids yet they usually don't recommend and IUD. Good Luck.
