| Re: 17 year old on Depo...
It depends on the individual. Some women are able to take Depo with no problems whatsoever. I, on the otherhand, wasn't so lucky. I was on Depo for 2 years and I have had nothing but problems since. I had no problems at all prior to Depo. I had successfully conceived twice prior to Depo, and I have periods that were like clockwork. I never skipped a period in my life.........they were never even late! Then I went on Depo. I stayed on it for 2 years. I got off of it to have another child. Well, that didn't come easily. My period hadn't returned after being off of the shot for a year and a half. So, I went to a specialist and was put on Clomid to assist in my conception. During my months of Clomid, that is the only time I had a period. I was on Clomid for 4 months, and I did conceive. After my son was born, I thought maybe I would go back to normal and start having my periods. Well, I didn't. I did not get my first non-induced period until 5 years after my last Depo injection. It has been 8 years since I stopped using Depo, and to this day, I only get about 4, maybe 5 periods each year. Infertility is only 1 of the problems that I experienced. There are many other problems that I have experienced as well.
I never had any problems til Depo. You won't know if you will have the same problems until you get off of it. It is a 50/50 chance. Your mother shouldn't be so quick to assume that everything will be just fine for you, because there is no guarantee that will be the case. I would consider switching to another form of bc.
