levonorgestrel and weight gain - Birth Control Message Board

I'm wondering how many of you have gained weight from progestin only methods of birth control.

I'll be switching from Levore BCP to Mirena IUD and am wondering if the diffence in switching from an estrogen/progesterone method to progesterone only is going to make me gain weight.

What have your experiences been?

When I switched from the Pill to DepoProvera, I gained about 10 pounds! But then after speaking to my doctor, discovered that Depo acts as an appetite accelerator... the weight came off within a month of stopping Depo. However, though the hormones in Depo are very similar to the Mirena, I haven't encountered weight gain as a substantial side effect while doing research(I'm getting my Mirena tomorrow!) It will be interesting to see what happens....
