Persistant Migraines on Birth Control? - Birth Control Message Board

I am taking Estrostep FE and for awhile I have experienced Migraines the week before I start my period(the third week of pills). Sometimes during the beginning of the third week of pills or towards the end. I would assume it it due to the decrease in hormones on the third week but I'm not sure.

Last night I had a horrible migraine that caused me to get sick to my stomach and I am on the third week of my pills.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes I get this also. It is from the drop in hormones which will cause migraines. You could talk to your doctor about this. I have a friend who takes imitrex during that week to help relief her migraines. Take care, I know how awful these migraines can be.

You should try Mircette (generic Kariva). It is specifically for people who experience hormonal migraines (that, like the last poster said, are caused by the extreme drop in hormone levels that come w/ taking the sugar pill the last week of your pack). Kariva contains just enough hormone in teh sugar pills to prevent your body from experiencing this lack of hormone shock, thus preventing migraines. I take Kariva, Inderal LA once a day as a preventative and Imitrex as needed and have my migraines pretty well under control. Good luck.

I get the headaches during the third week of pills instead of during the sugar pill week??? Should I stilll try Mircette? I have been wanting to try to patch but I'm not sure if it will cause migraines as well.

Hi there, I suffer from ALOT of migraines-migraine headaches w/aura and just the aura (with no headache at all). My doctor has just changed my BC pills from Alesse to Yasmine-apparently these pills are suppose to help alleviate migraines and their symptoms.
