Please Answer--very Concerned

First of all...I have a heart defect---it is PFO/Aneurysm...it is congential and with having this there is a risk of stroke...because...the pfo is a hole in the heart and if I should get a blood clot and it goes through this hole...then it could cause a stroke instead of filtering out thru the lungs.

So...I am supposed to avoid anything that might cause blood clots....

I do not want anymore children...was very very sick with my first.. and can not take the risk. So...I want to avoid getting pregnant...and my doctor put me on Yasmine. Have not started taking it yet.

I am terrified of taking it because I have heard such horrible stories of it causing blood clots.

Is Yasmine a low dose birth control pill???

What would you guys do??? Take the pill and risk the blood clot issue...or don't take it and risk getting pregnant which is just as bad for me.

I need some real advice here.... I asked doctor what other method he would recommend and he said "the pill, the risk of blood clots is low, and to stay on my aspirin daily and I should be fine"

BUT I AM SCARED TO DEATH...I DO NOT WANT TO GET PREGNANT AND I AM SCARED TO TAKE THE PILL--- I HAVE A 2 YR OLD AND WANT TO BE AROUND TO TAKE CARE OF HER.

PLEASE GIVE YOUR ADVICE OR IF YOU CAN TELL ME ANOTHER TYPE OF PILL THAT IS LESS LIKELY TO CAUSE CLOTS OR IS LESS RISKY....THANKS

The pill isnt your only option. Have you and you doctor talked about other options, you can get "your tubes tied" or a diaphram (i think thats what they call it) inserted (thats what my mom uses and its works well for her). These are the most permanent options I know of.

I'm sorry, I'm no expert at all, but I do know there are other options and I do know that you should feel comfortable! I can see that going on Yasmin would make you really scared and I dont blame you because I also know that when they advertise birth control pills they say that you should take them if you are at risk for heart attack or stroke!

My opinion would be to stay away from the pill! Please look at other options (unless you already have, in which case I'm sorry). If you go on the pill theres always a risk of blood clots, no matter how "low" it is. I dont think its worth that risk.. like you said, you have a 2 year old, she needs you. BTW, isnt taking asprin everyday kind of risky as well?

We talked about an IUD and a tubal...but he was against both...he said the pill was the best choice. Actually aspirin is beneficial to almost everybody...it thins the blood. Especially to someone with a heart condition.
