Help..Mircette/Seasonale question - Birth Control Message Board

Hello. I was originally prescribed Seasonale b/c I have very painful menstrual cramps and wanted to eliminate my period. However, I realized I didnt want to spot a lot and thats a big side effect for Seasonale. My doctor prescribed me Mircette..but I was reading that it contains desogestrel and that has a more than doubled increased risk of blood clotting. I have to start one on Sunday and I'm so confused. Does anyone know about the dangers of this desogestrel progestin..can anyone give me any advice on this and Seasonale...Thanx!

I took Mircette for 2 years and never had a problem until the second year and that was just throwing up durning my period!

I've been on Mircette for almost a year, and I've had no problems at all. I had a little bit of spotting one time when I forgot to take it for a few days, but other than that it's been great. No more cramps and I could set the clock by my periods.

I'm not on Seasonale, but I take Loestrin FE 1.5's. My gyno wasn't a big supporter of Seasonale when it first came out, but said he would give me 4 free packets of my Loestrin along with my prescription to allow me to do the Seasonale method. So, I start on a Sunday, continue for 12 weeks which I'll go through 4 packets stopping on a Sat. I usually have my period by Tuesday and it's gone by Friday. No problems, no spotting, no weight gain. I've been doing this for 2 1/2 years. I've also noticed that my migranes aren't as frequent. Best thing I've ever done! It's so nice to go through the summer months and not have to worry about having my period. However, I do have a friend who tried the same thing and didn't work for her. Everyone's bodies are different.

Did your doctor say why he wasnt a seasonale supporter? b/c im wondering about it b/c its so new. thats the one thing that makes me wonder if i should be taking it.
