changing bc pill type...side effects? - Birth Control Message Board

i have a question about side effects of changing birth cotrol pills...about a month ago, my girlfriend and i had intercourse(unprotected) during here period and i went in here. Once she was done with her cycle, she changed to a new pill, she was supposed to have her period on wednesday (march 30) it is now saturday (april 2) and she still has not gotten her period. On tuesday she noticed some brown discharge, then it stopped. She then had that same brown discharge friday, but then it stopped again..i am asking could the change in pill type make her late and/or could she be pregnant....i am very scared that she could be pregnant.

The change in "the Pill" could have chabged her cycle. However if she had her 7 day break and she has had a period then the chances are she is not pregnant.
You could have a pregnancy risk however or an STI/STD risk try using a condom next time.
The only real way to tell is she is pregnant is to do a pregnancy test. I am not sure what the brown discharge is.

Irregular cycles are common when starting a new pill. However, if she switched to a complete different birth control pill, pregnancy could have occurred.

She needs to take a pregnancy test. If it's negative, blame the new pill for screwing up her cycle.

You can never rule pregnancy out without doing the test. However, I went from one pill to the next to the next last year (3 changes) and as long as you go straight from one to the next without skipping, you should be fine. Also, it does change your period if they are made differently. Also, those of us who are trying to conceive will tell you that your chances of pregnancy occurring during menstration aren't very high. If you want to feel better, do the test though.
