skipping period

Can you skip your period on othro cyclen? Even though its a monophasic pill? I heard that it was hard to skip you period with ortho tri cyclen lo because its a triphasic pill and the hormone levels go up each week. By the way how do you skip your period anyway?

Re: skipping period

Tjay718.....From what I understand when having a regular menstrual cycle your uterus starts to get thicker so that if you do get pregnant it will have enough cushion and support for the baby. If after you ovulate and you do not become pregnant your uterus starts to slough off that excess tissue. This is what makes you bleed during your period. If you are on BC pills then your body thinks your pregnant so what causes you to bleed is withdrawal from the hormones in your BC pills. From what I have heard if after you take your pill for Day 21 then on Day 22 don't take the green pills that have no hormones in them, you must start a new pack. That way you never "withdraw" from the hormones and you don't start your period. I have never done this before because I just feel that it is not safe, but I have heard of people doing this if they were going to be on their period for their wedding night or something like that. I would definitely talk to my doctor first.

Re: skipping period

It's perfectly safe and perfectly okay to skip a period on the pill. You're right, it's harder on triphasic pills, but since you're on monophasic, you should be fine. If you've only JUST started on the pill you have more risk of breakthrough bleeding, but if you've been on the pill for several months already or more, you should be fine. Just take all the 21 pills of pack one, throw out the placebos and take a new pack. At the end of pack two you can have a period or skip again, although the more months you skip, the higher your risk of breakthrough bleeding. Don't worry about lining "building up" inside you, because while on the pill not much builds up anyhow, so it isnt as though it will just keep building and building inside you. Your next period might be slightly heavier, but most likely will be exactly as it always is.

Good luck!

Re: skipping period

im going to try skipping my period starting this sunday. my boyfriend flies in and my period is suppose to start the following tuesday. im on cyclessa. its triphasic. ive read that on these pills its harder, but nothing wrong with at least trying right...my question is...so i skip the placebo pills, and start up the next pack...so wont my next period come a week early? and from that point on my period will be a week earlier than from what it used to be?? hope this makes sense!!! if anyone can help, please do!! thank you very much.

Re: skipping period

If you are trying to skip on a triphasic pill it is really hard, although it is usually not too bad to delay it a week- you just take the last week of the active pills in the next pack, then throw out the rest of the pack, have a week off, then start a new pack. If you start at the beginning of the new pack to skip, you are still going to have a huge decrease in horomones which can lead to break through bleeding.
