IUD and bleeding - Birth Control Message Board

I had the IUD put in 2 weeks ago and have been bleeding since, well the last 2 days I have been bleeding ALOT. I have mild cramping but nothing tylenol cant take away. My ? is, is this normal? I'm really scared because I just had a csection 6 weeks ago and I'm afraid maybe I tore a stich on the inside or something. But wouldn't that hurt? If anyone has any knowledge on IUD i would appreciate your help. I wish I would have called my doctor yesterday but now its saturday and I don't want to have to call his answering service for something that is normal. Please help if you can. Thanks

Bleeding and spotting are normal after an IUD is inserted, however, if you're alarmed, contact your doctor. Don't worry about the answering service-- they are there to field calls, and have the doctor contact you if they feel it's necessary. Many times, answering services are manned by nurses, so s/he might be able to calm your concerns, too.
