Missed Period!! Please Help!

Ok{removed} I'm super scared and was hoping someone could give me advice.

I've been on Estrostep for about 7 or 8 months now and I have absolutely loved it...my periods have come like clockwork and my period has been so light. I would have 7 day heavy bleeding on Othro tricyclen and would have heavy mood swings (crying). Now I only have 3 days of "last-day" bleeding and I only have very little cramps the 2 days before.

However...this last cycle...my boyfriend left to live back home in Italy and I had about 5 pills left when he left. I forgot to take one the next day, but then doubled up the following day. Then I had three days left and just didn't take them. Since he was gone and I'm not having sex...I figured I'd be fine.

Well, I wish I would have taken them because I missed my period. I have been freaking out. I waited a week and started my pills again, but I'm SO scared that I'm pregnant.

Hearing about all the breast pain helped me a lot because I've been having that a lot and I was thinking that it was a sign of pregnancy.

My bf and I used condoms every time we had sex this cycle and I took the pill every day at about the same time (9-11am). The only time we didn't use a condom was in the period week before this pack that I should have had my period and wasn't taking the active pills. Since my period is only 3 days...that leaves 4 days of not taking the pill but still having a possiblity of having sex.

Anyway...I'm still all freaking out. I've taken my pills every day when I wake up and now I just have 6 more pills in the pack. I know that since my lining is thin...I shouldn't be able to get pregnant, right?

I took a pregnancy test the 2nd week of my pills (about 2 weeks ago) and it said I wasn't pregnant...is that enough time to register? I just need to see blood when I'm having sex, you know what I mean?

Ahhh!

Re: Missed Period!! Please Help!

if your period has been "working like clockwork" like you said, and you only had 5 days left before you would have your period again, before you missed your first pill, it seems very unlikely you would be pregnant. you ovulate approximately one week after your period, so if you had sex during the first time you missed a dose, which would have been right before your period was supposed to come, it seems very unlikely you would be pregnant. not finishing the doses for the last cycle would have caused the level and balance of your hormones to change, then you started taking the next cycle's doses and this would have changed the balance again, which could explain why you just didn't get your period. if you only have a few days worth of doses left, you should know soon enough by either getting your period or not.

while most BCPs work to suppress ovulation, this doesn't happen 100% of the time, so there is still a small possibility of becoming pregnant while taking BCP, however, if you were also using condoms, this seems incredibly unlikely. if you're still unsure, you should be able to go to a clinic and get a free test to know for sure.

Ahhh!

You need to understand that the pill doesn't just protect against pregnancy on a daily basis. Taking a pill one day doesn't protect you for just that day. It's IMPERATIVE that you take ALL of the active pills regardles of whether your having sex or not on those days. Nowhere in drug literature is it stated to stop taking the pill if you aren't sexually active from that day forward.

There is a small, and I emphasize small, chance of pregnancy because of yoru negligence. Sperm can live in the body for several days (although they usually don't), and time that with a released egg in the body for several days, and you have fertilization. It's not likely, but it can happen this way.

To be safe, take a pregnancy test, and refamiliarize yourself with how the pill works. Like I said, it's unlikely that your pregnant, but birth control when not used properly can fail.

Re: Missed Period!! Please Help!

An early sign of pregnancy is a darkening of the areola- the area commonly referred to as the "nipple." Early production of hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) causes this change. The other signs often resemble those of upcoming menstruation, unfortunately.
