When Should I Start The Pill? - Birth Control Message Board

Okay, I just got put on birth control pills and my DR told me to start them the sunday after my period starts. The only thing is, I usually get pre-period symptoms where I spot and bleed, but not as "heavy" as when I get my normal period. All together, I usually have my period for about 2 weeks. Now, do I start the pill after the pre-period symptoms- or do i wait to get my actual period?? I know this is confusing- but i dont know what to do!!! If anyone knows what i should do, please respond!

I think your DR meant the Sunday after you first bleed/spot.

But just so u know, u can can start at any day during your cycle. You can start today if u wanted to.

This is true, but remember to use back up for seven days (ie condoms) no matter when you start, unless you start on the very first day of your period.

If you have any bleeding at all, whether it be spotting or an actual period, you can start the pill that Sunday.
