i am 22. never been on birth control. started getting acne at age 20. no real pattern of when i get it. i can go for months with perfect skin! and then months with acne!. i think it's hormonal since i never had acne as a teenager. would i have to go to an obgyn to get birth control? ive never been to a dermatologist.
The only bc pill FDA approved for acne is Ortho Tri-Cyclen. This pill is available at planned parenthood as well as pretty much everywhere. You can either go there or a woman's clinic or your gyno or your doctor. OTC did wonders for my skin, but I just switched and I've only broken out a couple times.
You need to make an appt. with an obgyn and tell her you want to try Yasmin. I developed acne after getting off Alesse for a few months but then I got back on and tried Yasmin. It has really helped my skin alot. But the first 2 months your skin breaks out. But once you get past that it's smooth sailing!
I've been on Ortho Tri-Cyclen for a couple months. Last month I hardly had any pimples, but this month my face is completely broken out!!! It's so annoying! LOL I hope my acne clears up next month! It will be the third month that I've been on it...
My derm prescribed me Orthotrycyclen once for acne. It cleared up a back acne I had like magic. I took them for too short (two months) I was scared to take bcpills back then. Many yeas later I took accutane and that cleared my acne although looking back I wished I tried the bcpills for longer and see if that helped my face. Accutane is a dangerous drug. So now Im back to using ortho again this time for contraception reasons and oh well I have no acne but I know that was from the accutane.
