Triphasic pills have 3 levels of hormones, whereas monophasic pills only have one constant level of hormones. There are also biphasic pills, but they aren't as common.
Look at your pills; every color of pill is one strength/level of hormone. If you see 3 colors (plus a color for the placebo/inactive week), that's triphasic. One color (plus a color for the placebo/inactive week) is monophasic. You can also tell by reading the ingredients on the pack of pills or in your package insert. If you see various strengths identified with a specific pill, it's triphasic.
