help! first time having sex since being on the pill
i started ortho tri cyclen lo on the 31st..which means its been 7 days..so they say its ok to not use any back up now..
so tonite i had sex for my first time ever without a condom..
BUT IS IT TRULY OK TO HAVE SEX RIGHT AFTER 7 DAYS OF BEING ON IT?
im starting to freak out a little bit now about pregnancy.
Do you think ill be okay?
i mean how well can you truly trust the pill?
Does it being ORTHO LO have any less effectiveness?
my last 2 questions.. {removed}
and lately my breasts have been slightly tender..like if i was ovulating or something..but thats what the pill is for..obviously to make me NOT ovulate..so if my breasts are a little tender..could i still of ovulated?

Re: help! first time having sex since being on the pill
From what Ive learnt, you should take a 2nd precaution during the first month u are taking the pill. so use a condom as well during the first month. and it takes 21 days for the BCP to take effect and from just 7 days i dont think it aint gona help in preventing ovulation... dats why pills come in 21 days and 7 days sugar pills... or placebos.
Re: help! first time having sex since being on the pill
After seven days of perfect use of the pill, you are as protected as you will ever be on it. Sometimes women are advised to wait a month before using the pill as their sole means of contraception to make sure they are taking it as they should be, that they are used to taking it and thus doing so "perfectly".

To add to Daisie's post, the "Lo" does not mean less effectiveness. It just means that it has lower hormones than the regular Ortho Tri-Cyclen. The two are so close is hormones that there's barely any difference, anyway.
Also, your breast are tender because of the hormones. It's a side effect of the pill, and should subside in a few cycles.
Re: help! first time having sex since being on the pill
well to ease my mind some..i called planned parenthood and the lady there said it will be totally protected after 7 days. and i said are you for sure? and she said yes.
so i guess thats good.
i mean i was on my 8th pill when it happened..
you know a extra pill just in case lol..
Re: help! first time having sex since being on the pill
Thank you for posting! this is who i really wanted to hear from. someone who has been in the same boat as me...i know everyone is different but you have helped ease my mind a lot. where you on ortho lo when this happened? so you really think ill be ok?
Re: help! first time having sex since being on the pill
Try to relax! If you took your pill perfectly for the seven days prior to having sex, you were well protected. Stress can effect your cycle, so try to relax.

I started my period on July 23rd [saturday] and couldnt start taking my BC on that sunday [24th] because i was at camp and started earlier than i thought, so therefore i didnt have the BC with me..so when i got home..on that sunday.. [31st] i started taking...even tho i skipped that sunday during my period...do you still think ill be ok.. or did i mess up on how i started it?

This is a good question I would like to know the answer too. It's probably okay but I'm not sure. I took my first pill the day I started my period. I'm on orthotricyclen.

AHH!! now im freaking out that i might of took it wrong. i cant believe it didnt remember this till now. gosh i hate making mistakes and paying for them i always do this! i cant put my mind at ease with this.
Re: help! first time having sex since being on the pill
I figured you would feel worried now but let's see if you start period on monday it is okay to take it the next sunday that which is a 6 day window period. Now you took it at the 8 day of your cycle. I would think you are still okay given you took it 7 days. I will do some little search online okay. I know this brings lot of anxiety.
Re: help! first time having sex since being on the pill
You are fine. When you start taking the pill on any day other then the first day of your period, you are protected after seven days of perfect pill use. You waited more then seven days after starting the pill before relying on it for your sole means of contraception, so you were as protected as you will ever be when you had sex.
Re: help! first time having sex since being on the pill
Im really confused. I thought we should take the BC either on the first day of our period or the Sunday once we begin our period? Otherwise within a 7 day frame during our period?? I thought this was to prevent any possibility of ovulating while we hvaing our period, rather than wait more than 7 days after our period has begun to take the pill.

It doesn't matter what day you pick. But, if you don't pick to start the pill on the first day of your period, you have to use a back-up method for 7 days. Your body doesn't know if it's a Tuesday or a Sunday. Most doctors just recommend Sundays is it's the first day of the week.
