quick question about ortho tri cyclen lo

when they say you are protected after 7 days of use..does this mean after you take all the first 7 white pills? why does it take 7 days anyway? and how can you be sure after 7 days its ok for no condom?

Re: quick question about ortho tri cyclen lo

Seven days means taking a pill a day for seven days, on time, without any interfering substances, without vomitting shortly after swallowing it. After you have taken seven pills perfectly you are as protected as you will ever be on the pill.

There is no way to "check" if the pill is working or not. If you want to, wait for longer then seven days before having sex using only the pill as protection from pregnancy. You don't HAVE to stop using condoms, and if you are unsure of your partner's std status, condoms should be used. However, if you know your partner has no stds, and you have taken the pill perfectly for seven pills in a row, then you are as protected as you will ever be.

NyQuil has no effect on the pill.

Read your package insert to read what substances will interact with the pill.

When in doubt, you can always phone your local pharmacy and ask them. They're quite used to getting questions like these.

I don't think you're ever protected, I got pregnant on it twice.

The pill, including Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo is 99.9% effective. That means that 1 out of 1000 women will become pregnant despite using the pill perfectly. Most women who get pregnant on the pill though don't use it "perfectly," but rather "typically." Don't let stories like that scare you, especially when you don't know all of the details.
