skipping my period - Birth Control Message Board

so i'm going on a trip this weekend and i'm supposed to get my period on the sunday. i get back sunday night and i'm seeing my boyfriend that week for the first time in like 2 weeks. so i was thinking about just skipping my period by continuing to take the pink pills in my alesse pack. is that a big deal and are there any bad side effects? i've been on the pill for a couple months.

You have already been on the pill several months, and it's a monophophasic pill, so hopefully you should be fine skipping. Since Alesse has less hormones then other pills (only 20mcg of estrogen) it's possible that you might have spotting or breakthrough bleeding like a period, but there is no way to tell without trying. Other then that, you should be fine. You won't be at increased risk for pregnancy by skipping, just possible increased risk for breakthrough bleeding.

ok thanks. that's what i was wondering about, because i knew there had to be some sort of effect related to basically making your body go against nature by skipping your period. thanks for the info.
