Brown dischharge - Birth Control Message Board

I've done a bit of research on this, but am failing to find a situation similar enough to mine to be comfortable with the information that I've found.

I started Yasmin 28 last Saturday (Oct. 8), the day my period started. My period normally lasts 3-4 days, and when I've taken BC in the past (a few years ago) it shortened the length of my period to 1-2 days. However, this time, my period lasted about 5-6 days (full) but I've had brown discharge since. It isn't exiting my vagina. It is only noticable when I have sex. I've also stuck a Q-Tip up, to swab, and it comes out brown.

The discharge is a slimy, glaze looking brown. It isn't dark and it doesn't require the use of a panty liner or anything. I'm just concerned that it appears to be residual blood that won't exit my vagina. It doesn't even come out when I urinate. I've never douched before and I'm not even exactly sure what it's for, but perhaps this is it. Do I just need to flush out whatever is in there? Or is this simply due to hormonal change, etc?

I wouldn't recommend douching inless your doctor tells you to, purely because a brown discharge can be an infection, or left over blood. There's alot of info out there that will tell you that douching does more bad than good, too. You can try to clean it out on your own in the shower with just your fingers, and see if it comes back the next day.

I usually have discharge like you described after my periods every month. If it's not bothersome, itchy, burns, etc, it's normal and isn't cause for alarm. It's just old bloody discharge, and it's ok that it isn't running out of your vagina. But unless it becomes a problem, you have nothing to worry about.
