I beleive that Norplant still isnt avaible in the US. But i did use it when it was and it was good for the most part. I did have a lot of spotting and some weight gain. I think there is another product similar to Norplant that is good for one year. But i am not sure of the name.
Years ago, my friend had Norpalnt, and it was very efective against pregnancy. The only thing that bothered her was that her arm (at the implantation site) was always sore. By the way, thats interesting, I thought it was still available in the US. Either way, this wouldn't be my first choice, there are better options out there.
This is available here in the UK, and more and more women are being encouraged to use it because it's meant to be close to 100% effective. Well, I guess it probably is, but my best friend had it, and got pregnant. Not only that, but it was an ectopic (more common when using it apparently) which ruptured and nearly killed her. Thing was, she had all these symptoms but neither she nor the nurse she saw suspected that she could possibly be pregnant. So they very nearly left it too late; I was with her last New Year's when she got rushed to hospital. A couple of hours later and that would have been the end of her. So my advice to anyone using this is, don't believe what they tell you; you CAN get pregnant with it.
i would stay away from it. there is not a lot of research on the after effects of it. I was on it for 5 years and it was great. here is the down side. I have been trying to get pregnant for a year and 3 months now. and i have seen other people with the same story. be very careful.
